Event Details

The 2010 Galway Symposium on Higher Education will take place on June 10th and 11th. We are currently seeking proposals for papers, short presentations, workshops and posters. The theme of the conference is broad and will encompass submissions spanning a range of topics including:

  • novel approaches to curricular design
  • constraints and opportunities in developing new curricula and structures
  • innovative approaches to teaching and the fostering of active learning
  • the role of creativity in teaching, learning and research
  • nurturing creativity in students
  • imaginative approaches to the student learning experience
  • creativity myths and reality

Keynote speakers will address some of these issues and we hope to have plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate. Given the theme of the event we are also open to innovative approaches to presentations and the workshop sessions, provided of course such address relevant topics and are appropriate to the audience/participants.

Keynotes and facilitators lined up thus far include:

  • Prof. Norman Jackson (UK -Imaginative Curriculum Project)
  • Prof Anna Craft (University of Exeter)
  • Prof Keith Sawyer (Washington University, St. Louis)
  • Prof Tim Jones (Burren College of Art)
  • Prof Finbarr Bradley (previously Professor at UCD, NUIM and DCU)
  • Paul Martin (on design of learning spaces for creativity)
  • Kevin Byron (the creative researcher)

The conference programme is now available here.  Please register in advance for workshops.  Please note Voice and Creativity requires attendance at both workshops.

Abstracts and related information (format, contact details, etc) should be submitted online by March 17th 2010.
Online Submissions must be made using this form. Note the extension to the original deadline (1st March). This is because we received so many nice emails from people worried that they were too late. So please, just go ahead and submit. We'll start reviewing in detail next week, so after that might be trickier for submissions to be considered!
